Messages and notifications
Messages is a personal inbox across all workspaces. Each one-to-one thread remains associated with the workspace where it began, and the inbox can filter by workspace. The same two people may therefore have separate threads in different workspaces.
You must share current workspace membership to start a conversation. Once a thread exists, both participants retain its labelled history and may continue it after one participant leaves that workspace. Workspace administrators cannot read a direct thread unless they are a participant.
While ToDoddle is open, private realtime events prompt an authoritative refresh. They carry identifiers rather than message content. An unread badge and clickable in-app toast appear for a new message unless you are already viewing that exact thread. Opening the thread only marks messages read while the document is visible and the window has focus.
To avoid duplicate noise, immediate message email is suppressed while the recipient has an active presence heartbeat for that exact thread. Presence expires automatically and does not change access permissions. When realtime is unavailable, sending still works and focus or reconnect refreshes reconcile the inbox.
Browser or operating-system notifications while ToDoddle is hidden or closed are not yet available. Configure email preferences in profile settings for supported notification types.
Use direct Messages for a person-to-person exchange, task comments for delivery discussion, and the project Message Board for durable announcements, decisions, proposals, and updates.
